Sacred Relationship With Gaia

True relationships are reciprocal in nature.

We give, we receive. Stir and repeat.

The tree offers shelter, safety, and food to the birds. In return, the birds help fertilize the soil beneath the tree through their “offerings”, and everybody’s happy.

The raven, with its birds-eye view, helps guide the wolf toward where it will find prey. In return, the wolf leaves part of it’s kill uneaten, easy pickings for the raven. Everybody’s happy.

The flowers offer their nectar to the bees, and some of the pollen from the flowers stick to the bees legs, falling off on other flowers the bees visit, and pollination occurs. Everybody’s happy.

The earth offers human beings clean water to drink. Humans are happy to accept this gift that is so vital to their existence. They also decide it is okay to dump their garbage and toxic wastes into the waters. The waters aren’t happy with this arrangement. Most humans don’t give a shit… oh wait, I forgot, humans are happy to shit into the waters as well.

My Mistake!

Humans give CO2 to trees. Trees give O2 to humans.

The earth offers human beings trees, which take the carbon humans and others animals exhale and give back the oxygen humans and all other life forms need to in order to live. Humans tend not to give much thought to the air they breathe. If this were not true, we would see more of them fighting harder against those who spew pollutants into the air as a cost of doing business.

Humans also cut down vast swaths of rainforests, basically the lungs of the world, to make room for cattle they will eventually over-consume. The trees aren’t happy with this arrangement. Many humans are okay with it. The trees also offer humans and other species fruits and nuts, shade us from the sun, shelter us from the rain, provide wood for our homes, fuel for our fires, and many other gifts.

Then there’s our relationship to food.

The earth offers us thousands of varieties of vegetables and grains for the feeding of the world. Some powerful humans decided that this isn’t good enough. They genetically modify the seeds of many of these organisms in order to make them commercially more-profitable to grow, and as a side benefit, to take corporate ownership of the food supply. The rest of life isn’t too keen on this arrangement. Plenty of humans find it outrageous, too. But the powerful persist in their quest for world domination.

The oceans are becoming severely over-fished.

The earth offers oceans full of life, much of which any number of other life forms find to be quite tasty. Humans being among them. This might not be a problem if humans had to play by the same rules as the other life forms, only able to eat what they themselves could catch.

But humans don’t play by any one else’s rules. Humans, in their infinite cleverness, figure out ways to catch many more fish (often killing other life in the process – collateral damage swept up in the nets, as it were) than they themselves can personally consume, opting to sell their catch to other humans who either can’t or don’t wish to catch fish for themselves.

This still might not be a real problem. But alas, wherever there are humans, there are human foibles, such as gluttony, and of course, greed. Both of which lead to severe over-fishing of basically any and every variety of fish humans are willing to pay for. The fish aren’t all too happy with this arrangement. And truth is, most humans aren’t happy about it, either.

But lest we forget, it is profit that rules the world of man, all else be damned.

What does Gaia have to say on this subject?

Glad you asked. Here she is now…

There are millions upon millions of species, trillions and trillions strong, and I am all of them.

I am the mountains, the deserts, the forests, the tundra, the oceans, the rivers, the sky, the soil, the plants, all of it.

I am you, too. I am every human, every mammal, every reptile, every fish and every bird. I am all of life. I am the anima mundi, the soul of the world.

My job, my purpose, is to try to hold this great community of life close to some sort of balance, creating and maintaining a grand dance of cooperation and communion for us all. Yeah… and you thought your job was rough. Try being the world sometime.

The human facet of my personality has grown particularly troublesome over the last couple hundred birthdays. I mean, I love human creativity, and the way humans enjoy manifesting new & interesting things, but I absolutely cannot stand how callous, disrespectful and rude they are to the rest of life.

Seriously, humans are definitely the lion’s share of my shadow nature. My Darth Vader, if you will. And lately I find myself fearing that they’re secretly building a Death Star in preparation for blowing me off the face of the Multi-verse.

Face it, humans… when it comes to your relationships with the rest of life, you’re what we might call a bad date!

You take far more than you give.

And the ‘you’ I’m referring to here would be the more awakened humans among you. Those who have made it past the Me & Mine consciousness, who are actively maintaining consistent awareness of the We, and actively trying to be better partners in the dance of life.

Still, you take far more from Life than you give back to it.

And when we look at the relationship between humans still firmly entrenched in first-level consciousness and their dance with the rest of life, then we’re talking hard-core date rape, along with every kind of abuse imaginable. It’s completely unconscionable. And it’s pissing me off!

Humans, if you wish to continue as a species, then you will listen carefully to what I am saying.

Truth…

You, dear humans, are not actually in charge here.

Even though you obsessively seek to dominate me, I promise you this…

You are most definitely not the ones in control.

Please don’t make me prove this to you.

And for those among you in the midst of awakening…

Please deeply consider the following offerings from my heart:

We need you to reconnect with Life.
We need you to stop telling the story you created long ago that held man as lord and master and the rest of us as merely resources to be used at your whim and fancy.
We need you to tune out your televisions, turn off your computers, look up from your phones, and truly see us.
We need you to find your way back to a space of awe for the magic and mystery and miracles that speak to you of the sacredness of Life.
We need your kindness.
We need your nurturing hearts.
We need your divine creative intelligence to help us heal.
We need you to fall back in love with us.
We are all in this together.

Most of all, we need you to do more than to simply know this as truth.

We need you to behave as if you know this as truth.
